1 August 2019
In need of some serious fun ideas on how to entertain your toddler this summer in London? Well don’t look any further, read our guide for some ‘fun’tastic family days out in London!
London is fun for the whole family, you will be spoilt for choice here. We’ve rounded up some of the best activities and events in London for you and your family to enjoy and most importantly keep your toddler entertained.
Listen to stories on a magic carpet at the National Gallery - Trafalgar Square, London
Long before children can muse on Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ and remark on how the impasto helps to express the texture of the seed heads, they can relate to centuries-old paintings that sing with colour and drama. That’s why the National Gallery’s ‘magic carpet’ storytelling sessions are brilliant.
Every Sunday morning parents and little ones are invited to sit in front of one of the paintings and hear stories inspired by what they see.
Mudlarks at the Museum of London Docklands – Poplar, London
The Museum of London Docklands is great for children and a favourite area is Mudlarks. This informative and interactive play area is designed for under 12s, with a soft play section for under 5s. Everything is themed around life in the London docks so the big kids can weigh cargo or load a tea clipper while the small kids get to crawl around with large foam bananas and a London bus, plus they can pretend to drive a DLR train.
National Maritime Museum – Greenwich, London
The National Maritime Museum is great for toddlers who will enjoy scooting around the Great Map on a plastic boat and the many family events, such as Play Tuesday, where under-fives can explore the museum through music and stories. Bring the kids for an action packed adventure: play in the free AHOY! gallery for under-7s or All Hands for 6-12 year olds.
Commandeer a wigwam at the Diana Memorial Playground – Hyde Park, London
Located next to Kensington Palace, this play area has a Peter Pan theme and a fabulous wooden pirate ship as its centrepiece. Specially designed to suit children of all physical abilities, the playground includes a beach, sculptures, teepees for make-believe games, and a sensory trail. It’s free to enjoy, but at busy times there might be a queue to get in.
