About the creators of Little Baby Bum
9 July 2019
The amazing Husband-and-wife duo behind the popular YouTube children’s channel just sold their creation Little Baby Bum, likely for millions of pounds - but who are they? The Little Baby Bum channel was created back in 2011 by Derek and Cannis Holder. Fast forward eight years to 2019 and Little Baby Bum is paying off big time.
One of their videos, a 54-minute-long compilation of children's songs entitled "Wheels on the Bus" has been viewed more than 1.9 billion times, the World record for most-watched educational video, the most-viewed nursery rhyme, the most-viewed children's music video and the highest watch time of any clip on YouTube.
The channel was born in 2011 when Holder was sitting in front of a computer with the couple’s youngest child – nicknamed Little Baby Bum since her earliest days – looking for nursery rhyme videos.
Derek Holder told The guardian at an interview that he was a bit stunned by the lack of decent-quality stuff on YouTube and continued on by saying he found the videos hilarious “one was Baa Baa Black Sheep and it was actually a goat. In others the sheep was grey or the lyrics were generally wrong”.
So Holder, who has a background in IT and telecoms – including search engine optimisation (SEO), suggested to his (wife who was born and bred in Honk Kong and ran a design agency), that they create their own video for "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." His wife was reluctant at first, but he eventually persuaded her.
So they got to work, with his wife devising characters and ideas for the visuals as Derek created the traditional tunes — but with a twist. The couple now produce videos in seven different languages. They're the 7th most viewed YouTube channel in the World and the 79th most subscribed.
